To stay protected and ensure听optimal听performance,鈥�it is strongly recommended that all students with BYOD Windows 10 devices follow Microsoft鈥檚 instructions and听upgrade to Windows 11 as soon as possible.鈥�听
Windows 10 is no longer supported by Microsoft. Why does this matter?鈥�听
- 2026 HSC readiness:听The 2026 HSC browser will not work on Windows 10 devices.鈥�听
- 2027 NAPLAN readiness:听The NAPLAN Locked Down Browser in 2027 may not work on Windows 10 devices.鈥�听
- Increased security risk: Microsoft stopped supporting Windows 10 on 14 October 2025, which means there will be no ongoing security updates or bug fixes. Devices become more vulnerable to malware, ransomware, and data breaches.鈥�听
- Hardware compatibility issues:听New peripherals (e.g., printers, keyboards, monitors, webcams) may not function correctly.鈥�听
- Applications听such as web browsers and learning tools will progressively stop working on Windows 10.鈥�听
To avoid disruption, devices need to upgrade to Windows 11 or be replaced before the听start of the 2027 school year, or before the HSC if relevant.听

How do I check what version of Windows I am running?鈥�鈥�听
Select听Start听>听Settings听>听System, then select听魅影社区. You then see听Edition,听Version, and听OS Build听information.鈥�听
If you听aren鈥檛听on Windows 10 there is nothing further needed.听
If you are on Windows 10 follow the steps below:听
Option 1 鈥� Upgrade to Windows 11鈥�
If the device meets the system requirements, families should upgrade听immediately听to Windows 11 using Microsoft鈥檚 upgrade option:鈥�听

It鈥檚 recommended to use your school鈥檚 BYOD portal provider or the that is compatible with CDMN device requirements.
Alternatively, you can听purchase听from an independent retailer. However,听it鈥檚听important that you review the听Catholic Schools of Maitland Newcastle BYOD minimum specifications听to inform your purchase, as devices that connect to the school鈥檚 networks must meet these requirements.鈥�听
